12 Epic Photos to Make You Want to Sail the Exuma Islands

“Is this real life?!” was basically my mantra during our week-long sailing charter in the Exuma Islands.

Before we set foot on them, I couldn’t have pointed out the Exumas on a map. Now I know them as a district of the Bahamas made up of over 365 tiny islands, but more importantly as the home of the most stunningly clear, turquoise water I have ever seen. Blog post coming soon about how to do this trip yourselves – but in the meantime we wanted to share the out-of-control beauty of this place in pictures (since words can’t do it justice)!

Of the five million (and one) photos we took in this tropical paradise, here are our favorites:

Our home for the week: The Amarok under sail

I’m somewhere down there on the bow of the sailboat shouting, “Guys, have you seen this WATER?!”

Getting to know the neighbors.

This perfect little beach only surfaces at low tide. In a few hours it will disappear again.

At the end of this winding channel is a gorgeous secret beach with nobody on it.

Snorkeling at the site of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar’s crashed smuggling plane, which landed short of the runway here in 1980.

Sunset from our anchorage among the islands. We probably just ate lobster mac & cheese for dinner.

Blue above and blue below.

My favorite spot: There’s just enough room for smaller boats to anchor between this little island and the sand bar that surfaces at low tide. We could almost walk from our boat to the sand.

Anchored in a rainbow of blue.

I’m not normally an early riser, but you better believe I was up every morning to greet the sunrise from the bow of the Amarok.

Just leave us here.

Who’s stoked to have a husband/blogging partner who knows how to fly a drone? This girl! A million points to Aaron for providing expert photographic documentation while I frolicked around like a kid.

We’re already planning a longer trip back to sail the Exuma Islands. Who’s coming along?
